I am extremely proud to present a 1 life clear (no deaths OR retries) for Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection - Legend Mode on PS4.

This run was streamed live on September 11, 2021. Never forget.

After working for about 3 months on clearing the game just ONCE on Legend (with the True Ending), I took a few weeks off and decided I would try to clear 1 loop of Legend mode on one life. I practiced 1-2 hours daily for about 2 months after that point before I was able to pull this run off.

This is EASILY the most difficult game in the entire series (besides possibly the PSP version as I am not very familiar with that one yet), however, it also might be my favorite. The RNG is absolutely relentless. This leads to many many troubling spots in stages, as well as very challenging boss fights. Even after the hundreds of hours I've played this game, I still have trouble with Beelzebub and Astaroth. Astaroth is especially hard, and if you ever get him close to death (without killing him), he unleashes a fire bat attack that is nearly impossible to survive.

Luck plays a major factor in dozens of places throughout the game, so devising a safe methodical strategy is what I tried to do as much as possible. I did NOT allow retries for this run, which means that any arremers you wake up must be fought directly. These are the toughest arremers in any GNG game, so it can be quite frustrating to attempt.

A very useful tip for anybody planning to run this game is to learn where all the chests are and figure out which ones will replenish your armor. Taking a hit is inevitable in a run, so being able to get your armor back as quickly as possible only works if you are uncovering chests constantly and keeping track of where you are in the sequence.

Doing the full regular + shadow loop true ending run is WAY too long/difficult on one life, so this felt like the right amount of challenge. I don't know if anybody will ever pull that off, but it's hard to predict the future. I hope Capcom releases a DLC/update in the future that makes it possible to get the true ending without having to play every stage more than once. (Without retrying, one would have to beat most of the 14 stages twice, due to black chest / hell hole placement...)

This is the fourth game in the ghouls series that I've cleared on 1 life! Some day I hope to master Gokumakaimura Kai (PSP) to end the series. For now though I think I need a break.

The key to beating games in this manner is to just keep practicing, but not enough to burn yourself out.
