How To Use Introductory It in English Language


Dear Students,

Hope you are all fit and fine.
In class I have discussed the use of Introductory It.
Introductory It serves as an introduction to a subject or topic. It denotes time, weather and also used to describe something and put stress on a specific word in a sentence.



Format: It + is/was/will be + ....
Ex : it is very hot today.



Uses of It

Time :
Example : It is 10 a.m. now.
Example : It is five minutes to ten now.
Example : It is five past ten now.



Weather :
Example: It is very cold today.
Example : It was a bad weather.
Example : It was raining yesterday.



Describing Something :
Example : It was a long journey.
Example : It's a funny matter.



When Verb Works as an Subject :
Example : It is easy to say.
Example : It will be difficult to do.
Example : It is good to rise early.



Put Stress on Specific Word in a Sentence :
Example : It was Ram that gave me a pen.
Example : It was a pen that Ram gave me.



Negative Sentence :
Example : It is not raining yesterday.
Example : It is not very hot today.
Example : It is not 8 o' clock .



Question :
Example : Was it very cold yesterday?
Example : Is it hard to do?
Example : Will it be a nice day?
