Bruce David Grobbelaar, a Zimbabwean who played goalkeeping professionally from 1981 to1994 for Liverpool of England and the Zimbabwean national side, was born on October 6,1957. He is remembered for his rushing ability, unflappable confidence, and unorthodox and flamboyant style of play. Pundits have compared him in the past to the sweeper-keepers of the present day because of these traits. In 2014, he was chosen to serve as Ottawa Fury FCgoalie coach in the North American Soccer League. He was named the Matabeleland football team's goalie coach in March 2018.
Grobbelaar was raised in the neighbouring country of Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), where he was born, and he served in the Rhodesian Army before signing on with the VancouverWhitecaps of the North American Soccer League in 1979. He caught Liverpool's eye while on loan at Crewe Alexandra during the 1979–80 campaign, and the Merseyside club brought him in1981. Over the course of the following 13 years, he made 628 appearances for Liverpool,including 440 in the League. He also helped the team win six League titles, three FA Cups,three League Cups, and the 1983–84 European Cup.
