पाताल भुवनेश्वर भारत में उत्तराखंड राज्य के पिथोरागढ़ जिले में गंगोलीहाट से 14 किमी दूर एक चूना पत्थर का हिंदू गुफा मंदिर है। यह भुबनेश्वर गांव में स्थित है। किंवदंती और लोककथाओं में कहा गया है कि इस गुफा में भगवान शिव और तैंतीस कोटि देवता विराजमान हैं। प्रवेश द्वार से गुफा 160 मीटर लंबी और 90 फीट गहरी है। स्कंद पुराण में कहा गया है कि भगवान शिव पाताल भुवनेश्वर में निवास करते हैं और यहीं पर सभी देवी-देवता उनकी पूजा करने आते हैं। इसके अलावा, यदि हम पौराणिक कथाओं के अनुसार चलें, तो जगद्गुरु आदि शंकराचार्य ने बाद में कलियुग में इस गुफा की खोज की, जब उन्होंने यहां तांबे से बना एक शिवलिंग स्थापित किया। इस गुफा में एक संकीर्ण सुरंग जैसा उद्घाटन है जो कई गुफाओं तक जाता है। जल के प्रवाह द्वारा निर्मित, पाताल भुवनेश्वर सिर्फ एक गुफा नहीं है, बल्कि गुफाओं के भीतर गुफाओं की एक श्रृंखला है। "जो कोई भी शाश्वत शक्ति की उपस्थिति का अनुभव करना चाहता है उसे रामगंगा, सरयू और गुप्त-गंगा के संगम के पास स्थित पवित्र भुवनेश्वर आना चाहिए।" -मानसखंड, स्कंद पुराण, जिसके 800 श्लोकों में पाताल भुवनेश्वर का उल्लेख है
Patal Bhuvaneshwar is a limestone Hindu cave temple 14 km from Gangolihat in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand state in India. It is located in the village of Bhubneshwar. Legend and folklore have it that this cave enshrines Lord Shiva and thirty three koti demigods. The cave is 160 m long and 90 feet deep from the point of entrance. It is said in Skanda Purana that Lord Shiva resides in Patal Bhuvaneshwar, and it’s this place where all the gods and goddesses come to worship him. Also, if we go by what mythology states, Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya later discovered this cave in Kali Yuga, when he installed a shivalinga here, made of copper. This cave has a narrow tunnel-like opening which leads to a number of caves. Built by the flow of water, Patal Bhuvaneshwar is not just one cave, rather a series of caves within caves.
