Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos (or Antropus, a common variant) are the
Three Fates (known as the Moirai in Greek mythology or Parcae in Roman mythology), sister goddesses who control the destiny and lifespan of every mortal and even some gods.
Each sister had a specific role in managing the "thread" of human life:

Clotho (the "Spinner") was responsible for spinning the thread of life from her distaff onto her spindle, thus determining a person's birth.
Lachesis (the "Allotter" or "Measurer") measured the length of the thread, deciding how long an individual would live and their destiny.
Atropos (the "Inflexible" or "She who cannot be turned") was the eldest and most fearsome; she chose the mechanism of death and cut the thread of life with her shears, signaling the individual's moment of death.

They were often depicted as stern, elderly women, appearing three days after a child's birth to determine its fate. In some myths, they are described as daughters of Zeus and the Titan goddess Themis, the embodiment of divine order.
