Just a quick video about a fire starting technique using birch bark I came across on The Woodsman School and Guide Service channel. It may be something lots of people know but I had never seen it before or thought about it for that matter.

We all know that birch bark is a fantastic natural fire starter but starting it with a ferro rod can be a bit difficult at times. Honestly though, it is a skill that would serve you well in a survival situation.

Your matches may be wet or the lighter you depend on could be out of fuel, so knowing another very easy way to get a fire started is critical.

What Sarge from The Woodsman School did was to scrape the back of birch bark creating small shavings that light up very quickly when hit by the sparks from a ferro rod. Since seeing this I have used this technique quite few times and it works like a charm.

So I thought I would share this and also say check out his channel. He is a real person who knows how to operate in the natural world.
