A study by MIT's Electromagnetic Academy has stated that Electromagnetic radiation can cause sleep disorders like fragmented sleep, delayed sleep, etc. According to the W.H.O. (World Health Organisation) mobile phone radiation is a possible Class 2B Carcinogen. Electromagnetic radiation from cell tower and cell phone also affects the birds, animals, plants and environment. Children and pregnant women are more vulnerable to the ill-effects of cell phone radiation. The radiation penetrates the skull of an adult by 25%, of a 10 year old by 50% and of a 5 year old by 75% since their skulls are thinner and still developing. Talking for 20 mins on a cell phone can cause a rise in temperature of about 1°C in the ear and the surrounding areas of it. One day of tower radiation exposure is equivalent to 20 minutes in a microwave oven. .There are several health effects when a human body is exposed to electromagnetic radiation. Most common effects are sleep disruption, headache, loss of concentration, forgetful memory, depression, fatigue, dizziness, visual disorders, buzzing in head, altered reflexes etc. Cell tower radiation also causes some severe effects like Alzheimers, Parkinsons, irreversible infertility, DNA damage, effect on stress protiens, effect on skin, tinnitus and ear damage, salivary gland tumor, melatonin reduction and increase in cancer risk. The preventive measures are we must use cell phones for lesser amount of time i.e. only during emergency calls, use landlines and handsfree whenever possible, checking the SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) and safety sections on manuals before buying a phone.
