Apple Health includes a Medical ID feature that stores important health information on your iPhone for use in emergencies. First responders can access your Medical ID from the lock screen without needing your passcode, giving them quick access to critical details such as allergies, medications, blood type, and emergency contacts. Setting it up ensures your essential health information is always available when it matters most.

To create your Medical ID, open the Apple Health app on your iPhone. From the main “Summary” screen, tap the profile icon in the top right corner. In your profile menu, select “Medical ID.” If this is your first time setting it up, tap “Get Started.”

You’ll be prompted to enter key health details including your date of birth, medical conditions, medical notes, allergies, medications, blood type, and organ donor status. You can also add height, weight, and primary language if you wish. At the bottom of the form, add one or more emergency contacts from your phone’s address book—these will be accessible in an emergency without unlocking your device.

Make sure the “Show When Locked” option is turned on so that your Medical ID can be viewed from the lock screen by tapping “Emergency” and then “Medical ID.” Once you have entered all necessary details, tap “Done” in the top right to save your information.

You can return to this section at any time to update your Medical ID if your health status, medications, or contact details change.
