This film is a part of the travelogue series directed by Jack Sanger called “Flying Holidays”. This episode focuses on the French Rivera (Cote d’Azur) residing on the Mediterranean coast of south eastern France. The film is presented by Air France (:07) and had been produced in collaboration of the Comite Regional Du Tourisme (:49). It opens with picturesque shots of the Cote d’Azur (1:00) and of Nice (1:27). An Air France Sud Aviation SE 210 Caravelle passenger plane touches down in France (1:31) . Passengers unload for vacation (1:43). The Promenade Des Anglais (1:53) is pictured in Nice as one of the most well-known boulevards in the world (2:07). Beaulieu is pictured (2:20) with a luxurious Villa Grecque. Villa La Mauresque had been the residence of the novelist Somerset Maugham (2:36). Colorful and tropical gardens are viewed in the microstate of Monaco (3:00). Colorful homes near Port de Villefranche-sur-Mer (3:31) as well as small boats bobbing in the port follow (3:36). The film then heads back to Nice (3:46) and the Palais de la Mediterranee as guests enjoy evening refreshments and dance along with a live orchestra (3:59). A sign for the Club de la Mer follows (4:06). Two tourists load into a car with diving gear for a boat ride (4:15). Once out on the water, they load up with gear and dive in to explore the sea floor (5:08). While underwater, the pair discovers an amphora (5:43) discovered to be from the time of Christ when the vases had been used to carry liquids to Marseilles. The home port near the resort town of Antibes is viewed (6:18). Tourists pause at the La Bonne Au Berge here for lunch (6:30). Following lunch, the visitors travel to Eden-Roc (6:46) known as a meeting place for the socially prominent. Some guests enjoy water play in a pool set up to overlook the ocean (7:04). A sculpture of Jean-Gabriel Domergue (7:15) blends into an image the artist himself (7:23) who resides in an Italian style villa in the hills above Cannes (7:35). Shots of the city of Cannes follow (7:42). Some of the summer and winter galas, clubs, beaches, hotels and cafes of the area are pictured (7:52). A vehicle pulls into the old port of Cannes (8:11) as fishermen prepare for the day (8:17). Massive and luxurious yachts sit in the port’s waters (8:32). A young man and woman move a sailboat over the water (8:47). The Lerins Islands (9:20) sit crowned by a monastery. After a day at the beach (10:11), tourists are seen heading to Hotel Juana for twilight refreshments. The Grand Hotel is seen briefly afterwards (10:20). The Esterel moutians (Massif de l’Esterel) (10:48) are pictured as a pair sets out to explore one of the range’s many narrow inlets and barges (11:16). An artist paints near the water (12:07) as tourists relax after lunch (12:11). A female water skier bounces across waves (12:17). Snow skiing is depicted (13:18) in the Valberg. Some of the snowy mountain peaks are captured (13:28) as well as the narrow gorge which tourists must pass through in order to get to Valberg (13:38) as it is cut off by the Seine River. One of the area’s ski resorts is pictured including a 12th century style church (14:14) and a skating rink outside of one of the hotels (14:31). Tourists take ski instruction classes (15:06) and enjoy evening refreshments after a day in the snow (15:59). The King Carnival is pictured in Nice in the month of February (16:21) as civilians throw over a half a million pounds of confetti at one another per tradition (17:06). Large paper machete monsters march through the streets (17:42) crafted from a mixture of old paper and flour which has been used since ancestral times. A parade of flowers follows the confetti throwers (18:41). The film begins to wrap up with images of a woman in a float tossing flowers out to the crowd (19:01) and an Air France float (19:18).
