In this special webinar we discuss the role faith plays in the field of medicine. With the benefit of a distinguished set of panellists from various faiths we attempt to start a discourse on this important topic. This topic is not widely or openly discussed in the public sphere, yet, but hopefully this video will lead to more interest and positivity in this area for clinicians and non clinicians alike. After introductory remarks from each guest about how their faith relates to their work and the world around them we have a virtual round table discussion including topics such as: balancing faith and medicine, what we can learn from other countries, conscientious objection, are the panellists ambassadors for their faith, spirituality and more. Biographies of guests in order of appearance:

Imam Ajmal Masroor
A Bangladeshi-born British Imam, broadcaster and politician. He is well known for being a television presenter on political discussions and on Muslim channels. He is also a fundraiser and relationship counsellor, author and commentator and his life's mission is to inform, inspire and influence positive change.

Dr Hina Shahid
A General Practitioner and chairperson at Muslim Doctors Association.
She holds a Bachelors of Science in Pharmacology from University College London, and a Masters of Science in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
She works as a General Practitioner in London, and holds diplomas in women’s health, sexual and reproductive health and children’s health. She has an interest in chronic disease and elderly care, palliative care, mental health, public health and humanitarian medicine. She is an honorary clinical tutor at Imperial College Medical School and a GP Appraiser. She has worked in a number of research and humanitarian settings in Europe, Asian and the Middle East.

Professor Maralyn Druce
Professor of Endocrine Medicine
Professor Maralyn Druce undertook undergraduate training at Christ's College, Cambridge University and completed her clinical training at University College and Middlesex School of Medicine in 1994. She completed her higher medical training in Diabetes, Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine at the Hammersmith Hospital and Barts Hospital. She was awarded a Wellcome Trust clinical research training fellowship and obtained a PhD in physiology in Professor Steve Bloom's laboratory in Imperial College, focusing on gut hormones and their role in the peripheral and central control of energy homeostasis. She is also London Jewish Medical Association UK President.

Dr Bhavna Pandya
Consultant Nephrologist
Dr Pandya joined the NHS in 1995 after qualifying from India as a kidney specialist. She joined as a consultant Nephrologist and Physician at Aintree hospital in 2005. and is also the elected Medical and Dental Staff Governor of the trust. Patient safety and quality care at every level is her passion. Dr Pandya is involved in managing COVID patients particularly those on dialysis and also those who develop kidney failure with COVID illness. Dr Pandya has extensive experience empowering minority voices and chaired the Equal Opportunities in Nephrology committee of Renal Association Nationally she is a committee member of Medical Womens Federation UK.
Besides this Dr Pandya is a medical panel member of Hindu Forum of Britain and involved in a number of health related initiatives for the Hindu community.

Mr Kirti M Jasani
Consultant Ophthalmologist and Vitreoretinal Surgeon
Currently based at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. Kirti completed his Graduation from the University of Manchester in 2008 and did Specialty Training in Ophthalmology at the North Western Deanery followed by two years of sub-specialty fellowships in Gene Therapy, Medical and Vitreoretinal Surgery at the University of Oxford and John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital.
He is born in the Jain religious tradition and has found his spiritual guide in His Honourable Gurudevshri Rakeshbhai of the Shrimad Rajchandra Mission based in Dharampur, India. Kirti is a staunch vegetarian and believes in non-violence and compassion as the guiding principles of his life.

Dr Mark Pickering
General Practitioner
Chief Executive of Christian Medical Fellowship
Mark has been deeply committed to CMF for over 20 years since he was a London medical student in the mid-1990s. During this time, he has been involved in CMF's ministry at all levels - as National Student Committee member, Nucleus editor, student staff worker, Head of Student Ministries, medical school link, board member, Regional Team Leader and Chair of the Graduates Committee. He has also served as Student Secretary of the International Christian Medical and Dental Association (ICMDA) andhas been influential within the BMA over several years.
He is part of NHS Religion Equality Advisory Group
