This morning didn’t turn out how I planned. Went to a few areas I was easily able to break through the ice to get in and they were all frozen over. Where I shot this was the last attempt and a spot that has always been easy to get through. However today it took awhile to hack through the ice and I couldn’t make a hole as big as I would have liked to, because it was so thick.
Usually in this area I can get in and easily slide my legs under the ice so I can get my whole body in the water. This was not possible today. The ice had frozen nearly to the bottom.

At this point I had to come to the reality that I wasn’t going to be able to get in anywhere unless I walked further out.
I saw further out there was an open area there appeared to be open water…
Once I was all packed up I looked at the open water for a bit and then decided I would try tomorrow morning to go out there. Even though I was only in the water up to my waist for about 20 seconds. I had been out in the cold and heavy winds for nearly an hour. It was 2 outside and with the wind chill it was well into the negatives. All this and it was getting late and I had to get to work.
