Why hinduism is not a relegion?

If you think hinduism is a relegion ,you are wrong let me tell you why

If you take a look into vedas ,ramayan ,mahabaarat , bagavadgitta or any of the hindu scriptures.you will not find the word hindu mentioned even once.

Then who invented this word?

Persians

When persians came to india they mispronounced the name of river sindhu as hindu.
They called people living here as hindus.
If you are living in TamilNadu and someone call you Tamilian ,so does Tamilian become relegion or regional identity?

so in the same way hindu was a regional identity not a relegion.

That is why u might have seen Right wing leaders saying all people living in India irrespective of you are muslim or christian or any other relegion are Hindus.
That is why u might have seen BJP leaaders saying muslim living in India are also hindus.


Origin of Hinduism-
Look there is no concept of relegion in Hinduism, so you cannot associate Hinduism with particular god OR RELEGION or culture.

If you trace back roots of hinduism, In early vedic period , people living in northern part of india followed most of the rituals and culture from vedas.These people were followers of sanatana Dharma which translates to Eternal Law.

But at the same time there were so many tribes and local populations in different parts of india who followed their own rituals and workshipped their own Gods,
To explain this , you might have seen the movie kanthara ,if you observe carefully ,their rituals and gods like panjurli dhaiva are only workshipped at the costal regions of south india mentioned are very different from basic hindu rituals.
That is why some activists said that the rituals and gods shown in kantara does not belongs to hinduism .

But there is difference between sanatana dharma and hinduism .

bhootakhola and panjurli dhaiva may not actually belongs to sanatana dharma but they definately belong under hinduism .

Diff b/w sanatana dharma and hinduism

Hinduism == sanatana dharma ,the gods in kantara and local dieties.

But with time most of the people along with their own gods adopted the sanatana dharma.



But when foreign relegion like islam and christianity started to spread their influence across subcontinent,the local Indian polulation started to differentiate themselves with these foreign relegions , Actually the word hinduism was coined in the by Raja ram mohan roy in the year 1830.
