It's a new era in King County as a new county executive steps into the role. Shannon Braddock is stepping into the leadership role after longtime county executive Dow Constantine left earlier this year to lead Sound Transit.

Braddock has been with the county for 15 years and, most recently, served as the deputy executive.

As Braddock takes over in county leadership, she’ll have to tackle recent threats from the Trump administration to cut federal funding for municipalities that act as so-called “sanctuary cities.”

Braddock said she plans to approach the county council about creating a fund that might help build reserves and prepare for any possible federal impacts.
