In 1978, Ron Stallworth became the first Black detective in Colorado Springs Police Department history. Bored with paperwork, he spotted a KKK recruitment ad in the newspaper and did something insane: he responded to it.

When the Klan called back thrilled to recruit him, Ron had seconds to decide. He chose to become the racist character he invented on paper, launching one of the most audacious undercover operations in American history.

For nine months, Ron fooled the Ku Klux Klan using nothing but his voice and his nerve. He cultivated a phone relationship with David Duke, the Grand Wizard himself, who bragged he could instantly detect a Black man's voice. Duke had no idea he was confiding Klan secrets to the very person he claimed to be able to identify.

The operation required an impossible deception: two detectives sharing one identity. Ron handled every phone call while his white partner Chuck attended meetings in person. One slip from either man meant death.

As Ron gained the Klan's trust, he uncovered something terrifying: members with military access to NORAD were planning to steal explosives for a bombing campaign targeting gay nightclubs in Denver. What started as a bizarre experiment became a race to prevent mass murder.

The climax came when David Duke visited Colorado Springs for a rally. Ron was assigned as Duke's personal police bodyguard while simultaneously being honored as one of the chapter's most dedicated members. Both Ron Stallworths occupied the same room, separated by 15 feet and a universe of secrets.

When Duke tested Ron with the secret Klan handshake, the Black detective executed it perfectly. Duke's confusion was visible but he couldn't ask questions without exposing himself.

Then Ron claimed his trophy: draping his arm around the Grand Wizard for a photograph that captured the ultimate irony of the entire operation.

This is the true story of how one Black detective infiltrated America's oldest hate organization, sabotaged their terror plots, and humiliated their leader, all while that leader insisted such deception was impossible.
