In this video, I will talk about burnout. When I first quit my corporate job, I was constantly burned out. I wasn’t working at my full potential. It took me 6 years to figure out what the answer is to burnout, how to avoid it, and how to work on your full potential.

The reason you are burned out is you’re not listening to yourself. You are probably pushing too hard even though your body is telling you to take a break. Instead of listening to that little voice deep within, you are just shutting it out and continuing to work. The key to fixing this is to really listen to yourself.

I recently attended a 10-day yoga retreat during my trip to the Philippines. Here are 12 tactical tips that I’ve learned on how you can learn to listen to yourself:

1. Walking - At the retreat, I usually start the morning by walking down the beach. Taking a walk is a great way to check in with yourself, move away from work and see how you’re feeling.

2. Make Some Tea or Coffee - This is one way to take the moment, take a break and engage in some kind of sensation.

3. Meditate - It’s a tool for sitting in silence and connecting with something a little bit deeper. It’s a chance to listen to yourself, to listen to what thoughts come up when you’re not distracted by technology.

4. Yoga - It’s another tool you can use to check in to your body and how it’s feeling. In Western society, we often think that whatever distractions are going on are all in our mind. But sometimes, we can find that they manifest in your body. By moving your body and getting energy flowing in there, it could help avoid burnout. If you notice some tensions in your body, you need to actively let it go before it becomes a big problem.

5. Being Grateful - One of the powerful tools of avoiding burnout is being grateful for what you have, even for those little things. If you’re feeling burnout, you can write down what you are grateful for and repeat it every morning. Take a moment to think about how grateful you are deep down.

6. Enjoy What You Do - To avoid burnout, make sure you enjoy what you are doing and it’s not something that is holding you too tightly.

7. Eat Healthy - If you’re eating junkfood, you energy level is going to be low. Your likelihood of getting burnout will be really high.

8. Take Sometime for Yourself - One of the ways you can do this is through reading.

9. Exercise - This is something that a lot of people do. One of the things that you need to take note of is how you do it.

10. Talk to Someone - This is a powerful tool to avoid negative thoughts which may cause burnout. Talk with other people. Talk about the different issues in your head. They may not always provide solutions, but they can provide comfort.

11. Relaxing - However you relax is great, but you should do this in a place of consciousness. Do something consciously even it’s only lying down, listening to music or eating food.

12 .Good Night Sleep - Make sure your environment is clean to help you get a good night’s sleep.

The second way of avoiding burnout is to love yourself. Avoid overworking yourself. Learn to take a break and relax. If you do this, you’ll find that you’ll actually be more productive.
