A synthesis of literature is a report that collects, organizes, and discusses your research; here are 5 simple steps.

1.Extract the summaries
o First, move the citation information to a list by itself
o keep author last names and dates of publication as in-text citations
o No need for page numbers
o Do not repeat the publication year if you already indicated the publication
2.Arrange the summaries
o Read and arrange summaries for discussion
o Arrange in a logical sequence of presentation
o Find connections in the sequence
3.Split into paragraphs
o Separate into paragraphs and combine if required
o Limit paragraphs to 10-14 lines
4.Shape up the paragraphs
o Paragraph requires a topic sentence to introduce the source
o Transition or thought if there is more than one source in a paragraph
o Connect the various ideas
5.Write introduction and conclusion
o The body of the literature review requires introduction and conclusion
o The opening paragraph should begin by introducing the overall topic
o One common trick for the conclusion paragraph is to open with a restatement of the thesis
o Another common idea is to comment on any gaps or flaws in the research reviewed
o Finally, conclude with any reflections on how the review connects to the overall field.
