Hello and welcome to Old Ways Gardening and Prepping.🍀 Would like to welcome you each out to my backyard in my herb garden on this extremely humid hot day. Every year I look forward to being able to harvest my first batch of sweet grass. It is a Sacred plant to many Native American tribes in North America. Yes it is very wise to give an offering before harvesting this plant.

It has one amazing aroma and as it dries it becomes stronger. It can smell extremely sweet and other times it can smell like really good vanilla extract. It has been used for many centuries as a hair wash and to stuff pillows or mattresses with. It is also known as a insect repellent as well.

It has been harvested by Native American Ancestors for many centuries. It has been used not only as a smudge ingredient, a medicinal tea and as a smoke cleansing herb for illnesses. The tea is taken in moderation to heal colds, flu, bronchitis and lung congestion. Burned it can be used to heal lung ailments as well as cleanse negative energy from spaces. Was also used as a Woman's herb for healing from miscarriages as well as after birth to stop the bleeding. It has so many wonderful uses on this side of the big water.

Now in northern Europe it is used more for culinary purposes as well as flavoring liqueurs. This amazing plant has many wonderful uses and I would love to see more growing it in there herb gardens.
