Dungeons were first introduced in Destiny 2 with The Shattered Throne. So why am I doing Skolas's Revenge and calling it a dungeon? Im glad you asked.

While its true Skolas isnt technically a dungeon or a raid, Bungie definitely treated it as such during the House of Wolves Expansion.

For started Skolas had its own unique loot pool in comparison to the rest of the prison of elders.

It dropped elemental primary weapons, only to be found in raids and trials during year 1 of D1.

It was a 3 man activity that was possible to solo, that had raid like mechanics.

The loot pool for its time was raid quality loot and materials.

Emblem, Shader, and Ship upon completion was labeled under "Raid" in the collections kiosks

The activity had "Raid" exotics

Enemies were above max level during House of Wolves.

I could go on and Im pretty sure you get the point. So I personally started out this journey with Skolas's Revenge as the first "unofficial" dungeon in Destiny

Gear would drop at max light level, and was the only source for its time to drop ar that light level apart from trials
