TYLA: On The Fence About Her Identity.

Описание к видео TYLA: On The Fence About Her Identity.

South African born singer & dancer may appear as a one hit wonder to some, an industry plant to others or Simply the new it girl

Regardless, Tyla has made a name for herself world wide thanks to her american management team.

Tyla won her first Grammy for Best African Music beating big acts like Davido and Burna Boy.

To a lot of people this was an indication that Tyla was an industry plant. While people were criticising or defending her, her identity became a controversial topic, black Americans would refer to her as a black women and South Africans would correct them by saying she's colored and not black.

Coloured people in South Africa is a reference to people of multiracial ethnic ancestry, these people speak Afrikaans as their home language.

Being biracial does not make you colored, for example Trevor Noah is a biracial man who identifies as black and speaks Xhosa as his home language. Amanda du pont is a biracial women who identifies as black and speaks Swati as her home language.

The concept of colored is flawed even among people of that community. South Africa is a mixed country so even people outside of that community have mixed ancestry.

The concept of Race is not even African. African people used to identify based of tribes or rather culture.

Tyla going on the breakfast show and avoiding questions around her race among other things made her look guilty.

Tyla could've simply said she's "racially black and culturally mixed" or she should've said "she's multiracial" and she doesn't mind being identified as black.
