Paper Machine Vibration Problem - BEFORE & AFTER

Its not only assets such motors, pumps and fans Motion Amplification can be used on its great for larger structures and machines too. As we can filter the MA video's to different frequencies we can get a much deeper understanding of the motion of the machine.

Nice example here of a paper machine that was suffering raised vibration levels on the wet end section of the machine. With levels up to 8 mm/sec on some rolls. Testing using our Emerson 2140 Analyser and IRIS M Motion Amplification Camera we determined a resonance issue at higher machine speeds excited by the wire rolls (1XRPM) We noted from past history over many years this machine average speed had been increased more and more to increase production hence taking it into more into the resonance range.

One of the common results of running in these resonant ranges is a loosening of the holding down bolts of machines amplifying the problem further. In this case we recommended all base bolts were checked for tightness after reviewing the MA footage which showed a rocking motion of the machine. Although not a long term fix, the levels reduced to 3mm/sec RMS which the the site was happy to run with. A new maintenance inspection has also been added to check base bolt tightness routinely.
