Her name was Noadiah, and she, along with others, sought to discourage and intimidate Nehemiah. Though she appeared to be a prophetess of God, her words were not inspired by the Lord. It’s this story, and the broader warning against false prophets, that I want to explore with you today.


In the book of Nehemiah, we encounter a real-life example of such deception. Nehemiah was a man of God, called to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, but he faced constant opposition. One of his opponents was a false prophetess named Noadiah. In Nehemiah 6:14, we read Nehemiah’s prayer: “Remember Tobiah and Sanballat, O my God, because of what they have done; remember also the prophetess Noadiah and how she and the rest of the prophets have been trying to intimidate me.”Noadiah was among those who sought to deceive and intimidate Nehemiah, attempting to thwart the work of God. She used her position as a prophetess not to speak God’s truth but to undermine His will. Just like Novadia, she represents those who falsely claim to speak for God but instead lead people away from His purpose.Jesus warned us in Matthew 7:15, “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.” False prophets like Novadia and Noadiah may appear spiritual, persuasive, and full of wisdom, but their teachings can lead us astray from the truth of God’s Word.
