In the Holy Sepulchre as a missile threatened Jerusalem.

Early this morning, just before sunrise, I was in Jerusalem when the air raid sirens suddenly went off. The sound echoed not only in the city but also in Beit Shemesh, Ma’ale Adumim, Mevaseret Zion, Beitar Illit, Kiryat Arba, Hebron, and even near the Dead Sea. It was chilling to realize that the alert was triggered by a ballistic missile launched all the way from Yemen.

A few tense moments later, the Israeli army confirmed that the missile had been intercepted and no one was hurt. For a short while, flights at Ben Gurion Airport were halted, but quickly resumed once the danger had passed.

Standing there in the heart of Jerusalem, hearing the sirens pierce the quiet morning, I felt both the fear of what could have been and the relief of knowing the missile never reached us. Another reminder of the fragile reality we live with here, and the strength it takes to carry on.
