Vintage 1989 Eureka 1432A Upright Vacuum Cleaner

I found this on OfferUp for $10. I figured that this machine was worth the fairly long trip to Virginia Beach, VA. It is in decent shape with minimal use. I had to take the brush roll from another one of my Eureka models because the one in this one had a broken beater strip. On top of that, I can safely assume that the previous owner did a lot of sewing. The brush roll and shaft were wrapped in thread to the point where it could have never held a belt on itself. Other than that and the massive rip in the outer bag, there was nothing wrong with this machine. It was even fairly clean when I got it.

One thing that I found interesting about this machine is that it does not have ball bearings in the brush roll. It is made like the ones that Eureka used on their 1934B model that was recently discontinued. With that, the fact that it only has two height settings, and the thin outer bag, this was definitely a budget unit at the time. If only the mainstream budget vacuum cleaners that are offered nowadays were built to last thirty or more years like these ones were!
