On its 160 kilometer journey from its headwaters in the Oak Ridges Moraine the Credit River runs through Riverwood for only a couple of kilometers and by doing so it becomes an important corridor for wildlife. Numerous species of fish call the river home. Amphibians and reptiles also benefit, not just because of the river but because of its annual flooding which provides breeding places for some species.
