Norma Lewis – Maybe This Time (Hi-NRG Mix) [Hi-NRG, UK 1983]

Описание к видео Norma Lewis – Maybe This Time (Hi-NRG Mix) [Hi-NRG, UK 1983]

Years 1982 and 1983 meant the final arrival of the fully electronic music to the mainstream. Until that time electronic music (even electronic disco and space disco) was considered to be just minor “experiment” with futuristic sounds. In the early 1980's it finally reached the point, when electronic music became acceptable for the masses. At the beginning in clubs, later in radio charts as well. Before synth pop became widely popular, its ancestor - electro disco, transformed firstly into upbeat, high energy music popular around clubs in the USA, Canada and UK. This disco comeback made it in 1983 again to the charts. Hi-NRG dance music defined the future of the mainstream club music, despite of that it is today considered to be forgotten music style. Surely, its arrangements were very similar, melody was too simplified, and final result wasn´t radio friendly at all. But despite of that we can find interesting pieces even between these songs. “Meybe This Time” was song originally written for Kaye Ballard, but popularity of this piece was made later by other famous cabaret actor and singer, Liza Minnelli. After more than 20 years was this melody taken by American producers and covered under two arrangements. Firstly released classical disco version and later released Hi-NRG mix. “Meybe This Time” became first solo hit of “Norma Lewis”, who recorded later more similar dance hits. Despite of fact this song is a member of the eccentrical Hi-NRG family, its upbeat drums and electronic bass line isn't that harsh for listening as it is usual for this style. I consider this mix to be one of the most unique Hi-NRG styled songs at all. Dance rhythms simple get to this melodic piece enough of "high energy".
