Dyepot Weekly #85 - Dyeing Wool Yarn with Onions

Описание к видео Dyepot Weekly #85 - Dyeing Wool Yarn with Onions

Let's dye some KnitPicks bare yarn http://shrsl.com/19nvi (Affiliate Link) with red and yellow onions! I have been collecting yellow onion skins for months, and when some red onions showed up in my grocery delivery by mistake, I knew that I needed to give this a shot. In addition to the 100% Peruvian highland wool, I dyed 6 miniskeins in each color.

VIDEO CONTENTS
[0:00] Introduction
[1:00] Weighing my dried yellow onion skins - over 15 g
[1:28] Extracting color from 15 g yellow onion and two whole red onions. 8 cups of water in each pot. Boil for a while.
[2:46] 10 min later - significant color in the yellow onion pot.
[4:00] The bare yarns and miniskeins. I presoaked the yarn in plain tap water for 30+ min. Each pot will get 100 g of KnitPicks Wool of the Andes worsted weight yarn plus 6 miniskeins (100% supwerash merino, 100% Peruvian Highland wool, 75/25 Superwash Merino / Nylon, 100% cotton, 100% acyrlic, 100% polyester)
[5:24] one hour later. Straining the onions out, plus adding some more water to the pots.
[7:33] Adding the yarn to the dyepots. Also add 2 T white vinegar to each pot. Note, I added the miniskeins first. Add one cup of water to each pot for a bit more space.
[11:42] After 10 min
[12:30] After the full hour is up. Turn off the heat. Let the yarn cool off in the pots for several hours.
[13:52] Washing the yarn dyed with yellow onion
[16:47] Washing the yarn dyed with red onion
[19:56] the finished dry yarn and conclusions
