This video is about the starting current of Wound Rotor (slip ring) induction motor. The working principle of Induction motor is like a Transformer. It is called as Rotating Transformer. In slip ring Induction motor, rotor is connected with external resistance via slip rings. The difference between slip ring and squirrel cage is of Rotor. Slip ring rotor is connected with starter as external resistance to improve the starting torque and reduce the starting current. In this case the starting current of 2650 KW Motor has been recorded when there is external resistance is maximum and when resistance minimum. As soon as motor starts, its current recorded as more than 350A (rated current 308A) after a few seconds (when resistance reduced) current gets stable at 35A (on no Load).
