GERMANY | Artificial Mountain - A spot of idyll in the middle of a big city

Описание к видео GERMANY | Artificial Mountain - A spot of idyll in the middle of a big city

When hard coal was extracted in the last century, inevitably, non-coal bearing rock was produced. Most of this side rock was piled up and artificial mountains made from rock were created.

In the video we are climbing one of these artificial mountains, the 100 m high, beautiful „Rungenberg“-Dump, which has been converted into a recreational area.

It is located in West Germany in the former mining town of Gelsenkirchen (about 260.000 inhabitants).

The dump has been greened and wooded and is ideal for walking and hiking. In the middle of the big city you will find nature here, simply beautiful and peaceful.

We start the sporty ascent in an adjacent settlement (Schüngelberg) until we come over 300 steps to two rubble pyramids that are cut up by a valley.

Headlights are installed on both pyramids, the rays of which shine into the sky at night.

At the top there are wonderful panoramic views over the Ruhr area and the neighboring cities.
