September 26th 27th - Hurricane Helene rakes Madison, FL (Long video)

Описание к видео September 26th 27th - Hurricane Helene rakes Madison, FL (Long video)

This video is my experience with documenting Hurricane Helene as it made landfall in Taylor County, Florida late in the night on September 26th, 2024.
I rode out the storm nearly 45 miles inland in Madison, Florida and experienced surprisingly intense winds for being this far inland.
I estimate the peak 10 meter gust was probably in the 110-130mph (95-115kt) range at my location.
Damage after the storm looked typical for a category 2 hurricane in Madison, which would make sense given the inland weakening of the storm.
Even so, it was very surprising seeing the sheer strength of the winds that far inland.
Originally, I had wanted to ride out the storm near Perry, Florida, closer to the coast, but ended up moving because the situation looked a bit too dangerous.
So, I moved up to Madison, where I rode out the storm.
I stayed in Madison for much of the next day and documented damage.
Overall, most of it was to trees and roofs with a few weaker structures completely destroyed from the winds.
