Saint Gabriel of Georgia, a monk, ascetic, and confessor, is remembered for his radical humility, prophetic insight, and deep love for Christ and His Church. In an age of persecution and spiritual apathy, he chose the path of holy foolishness, bearing ridicule and suffering to conceal his sanctity and to awaken repentance in others. He lived during the darkest years of Soviet oppression, enduring imprisonment, beatings, and mockery for openly preaching Christ and denouncing atheism.

Though outwardly simple and hidden from the world, Saint Gabriel was a bearer of divine wisdom, gifted with clairvoyance, healing, and spiritual discernment. Countless pilgrims came to him for counsel, confession, and prayer. His life reflected the Gospel call to become “a fool for Christ’s sake” (1 Corinthians 4:10), choosing the path of love, humility, and suffering for the sake of the Kingdom of God.

Canonized by the Georgian Orthodox Church in 2012, Saint Gabriel is venerated throughout the Orthodox world as a modern-day prophet and spiritual father. His holy relics rest at Samtavro Monastery in Mtskheta, where many continue to experience his intercession and grace.

As the sacred chant surrounds his image in this video, we are reminded of his continual cry to the world:
"Repent and love one another!"
