Join us as we spend the weekend at Devon Cliffs Holiday Park in Exmouth, Devon.
One of Havens Biggest Holiday parks in the UK.
What is the park like, did we enjoy our stay?
We show you what you can expect and give you our honest review of this very large holiday park.
If you are looking for a weekend away in the South West of England, this may well be the park you want to visit. But if you want it to be cheap, it may not...
Great place for kids but not for your wallet!
We booked Bronze 4 berth static home. It was one of their budget homes and cost in the region of £150 for the weekend in October 22. This park is huge. And as we were going in October, and not knowing what the British Weather would have in store, we then paid an additional £50 to get a caravan near to the main facilities. So total was £205.
The caravan was basic, very clean, but it did not come with toiletries, towels or an washing up soaps or cleaning utensils. We also found that ours did not come supplied with a frying pan. So our full English breakfasts were a no go!
WIFI is also very hit and miss in the park, with it only really being found in the main complex itself.
Enter the complex and you are greeted by a huge arcade, which surround the main food court and sports bar. It does have a great soft play area, so if you do fancy a quiet drink, it is possible to let your kids vent off all their energy in there.
You have a Papa Johns, Fish and chip shop, Burger King and Mash and Barrel Pub within the main complex. It also has a Slim Chickens and mini market just outside.
So food wise you do have quite a good selection, but we did find that all prices were slightly inflated.
We tried all, and as expected, you pretty much know what you are getting with the main establishments, nice pizza, good burgers and pretty nice fish and chips. But, when it came to the Smash And Barrel, we were let down. Food was cold, had to be sent back and came back cold again and was very bland. Our advice is to give a miss for food, but Ok if you fancy a drink.
It has a great indoor swimming pool complex, with in the region of 6 -7 slides that our kids loved. Have to be honest and say this was one of the better holiday park pools we have ever encountered!.
be prepared to take a £1 for the lockers. It also has an outdoor pool, but it was not the weather when we visited. You need to book hour long sessions on their app if you want to go swimming, but we found that even though it was busy, you could easily book a slot.
Then there are the extra curriculum that you can pay for if you want to keep yourselves entertained.
These activities varied between £6 - £20. Just some of the extra activities are;
-The Big Jump
- Crazy Golf
- Archery
- Segway's, both junior and adult
- Nature Trial with rope slide
- Trampolines
- Build a Bear
- Rock climbing
- Balance Bikes
- Nature Trail
- Fire Lighting
There are many more, but we literally did not have time to check them all out in a weekend.
There are Play areas scattered throughout the park, all of which give your wallet a rest. And you do have the spectacular Sandy Bay at the bottom of site, which is a great beach to spend the day on if the sun is out.
Then there is evening entertainment in the 2 huge venues, Bugsy's and Capones.
Both of the venues can hold, probably in the region of 300 - 500. Ordering of drinks can be done via their APP and it is all reasonably priced and served quickly.
Even though we were there off season they were both still very packed. How it copes in peak season would be interesting to see? As we had children we found ourselves in Capones both nights as that had the entertainment aimed at the younger audiences. And we have to say, our kids, aged 10 and 5 loved it.
Overall this weekend cost us in the region of £600. Which is quite a bit for a quick weekend. But That is partly down to us caving in to our children's desires to try their luck on every arcade game they passed. Which as it is the centre to everything and has to be passed wherever you are heading, made it quite hard to ignore.
So at the end of our 3 days, the big question, would we go there again? Our kids most definitely would, but we found that at the end of stay, we had had enough. Great for a short break, but any longer we think it would have been cheaper to go abroad.
Our Rating for Devon Cliffs;
Caravan = 5 /10
Facilities = 8/10
Location = 8/10
Entertainment = 9/10
Price = 5/10
