Kroke (Yiddish: Kraków) is a band founded in 1992 by three friends - Tomasz Kukurba, Jerzy Bawol and Tomasz Lata - fascinated by klezmer music. As graduates of the Kraków Academy of Music, open to artistic exploration, the musicians also did not shy away from experimenting with jazz and contemporary music. Currently, the band draws inspiration from ethnic music from all over the world, but always based on their own improvisations, which has allowed them to create their own style that floats across borders, time and forms.

In the first years of their activity, the musicians could be heard on the streets and in the clubs of Krakow's Kazimierz, once the Jewish part of the city. At the time, they played compositions that were quite unknown to some, to others bringing to mind memories of a world long gone into oblivion.
In 1993, the band was spotted by director Steven Spielberg, who was visiting Krakow during the shooting of Schindler's List, and invited to perform at the Survivors Reunion, organized for Oskar Schindler's survivors. The artists have also collaborated with such musical personalities as Peter Gabriel and Nigel Kennedy.
"We are klezmer therefore first and foremost we improvise, constantly looking for something new, including within ourselves. Improvisation is the gateway through which the worlds of our souls travel straight to those who want to explore those worlds. We want our music to be called simply Kroke music," they say of themselves.
