Same Sex Marriage: Centre asks Supreme Court to hear States and Union Territories

The central Government has filed an affidavit which seeks that all the State governments and Union Territories should be made party to the petitions seeking recognition of same-sex marriage.
The centre in the affidavit says that marriage is included in the Concurrent list in the Seventh Schedule to the Indian Constitution and as such it is important to consult the states for adjudication of the petitions.
It says that the components of entry 5 of the Concurrent List such as Marriage and divorce; infants and minors; adoption; wills, intestacy and succession; joint family and partition are the matters intricately interrelated and any change in any will necessarily have an inevitable effect on other.
