Hedy Lamarr: 60 Second Bio

Hedy Lamarr, born Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler on 9th November 1914 in Austria, was a remarkable actress and inventor. Lamarr first gained attention for her role in the controversial 1933 Czechoslovak film "Ecstasy", where she appeared nude and portrayed a young woman in a loveless marriage. She then achieved worldwide success with her roles in Hollywood films such as "Algiers" and "Samson and Delilah". Her beauty, charisma, and acting prowess made her an iconic figure of the time.
During World War II, she co-invented a frequency-hopping spread spectrum technology with composer George Antheil, intended to make radio-guided torpedoes harder to detect and intercept. This invention laid the groundwork for modern wireless communication technologies.
Despite her scientific contributions, Lamarr's invention went unrecognized for many years. However, later in her life she received acknowledgment and honours for her pioneering work in technology. Hedy Lamarr passed away in 2000, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire in the worlds of film and technology.
