Migratory RUDDY KINGFISHER at rest on low & high perches, Singapore

At an average of 26 cm, the Ruddy Kingfisher is one of the larger kingfishers found in Singapore, and what a beautiful bird it is!
Its arrival in Singapore almost always triggers mass frenzy among birders.
I had to wait for a long time before I finally got to admire it, and was very grateful that its sojourn in Singapore was extended.
Here it is, at rest in a hidden corner deep inside foliage. On one occasion, it flew to a high perch, giving me a glimpse of its behaviour which I had not seen before.
The Ruddy Kingfisher is a rare migrant to Singapore. Found in the Indian subcontinent, China, Korea & Japan, the northerly population traditionally migrate south, visiting Singapore only rarely, thus making each encounter with it a priceless moment indeed.
