A black hat and a black cloak with a white inside were on Lhalung Palgyi Dorje as he left for Lhasa. His white horse was covered in charcoal, and he hid his bow and arrow in the long, flowing sleeves of his cloak. When he arrived in Lhasa, he tethered his horse up next to a Chhorten (stupa) along the river and went on foot into the city. In front of the Jokhang Temple, he discovered King Langdarma and his court officials examining the treaty-pillar's inscription. The monk made a display of himself in front of the King, released his bow and arrow covertly, and then shot an arrow into the King's heart while standing up.
Lhalung managed to flee to the river bank as the demon King was in the final moments of his life and others around him were in disarray. He mounted his steed and made it swim across the river to wash the charcoal away. He then turned over his cloak so that only the white lining was visible and took a cunning path back to Yerpa.
