Exploring Ruined Scottish Castle - Neish Island & MacNab Raid of 1612

Описание к видео Exploring Ruined Scottish Castle - Neish Island & MacNab Raid of 1612

Today we swim out to explore the historic Neish Island on Loch Earn. It's an artificial island from at least the Iron age with many stories to tell. We locate the hidden causeway and examine the ancient archeological foundations of the island, collecting various old glass bottles and other loch treasure hunting along the way. Finally we tell the tale of clan rivalry between the Neish's and the MacNabs which culminates in a blood soaked raid on Neish Island set to some Scottish music. We hope you enjoy this video with a more historical twist. If you fancy more island and crannog exploration videos, let us know as there are plenty around with amazing history.

If you like the music the first little bit when looking at Dundurn fort it is on the ancient Celtic Carnyx. A sort of ceremonial bronze trumpet used in Iron Age celtic Europe and popular in Scotland. See ‘Deskford Carnyx’. It’s one of those instruments that transports you back thousands of years as soon as you hear it. Look no further than John Kenny for some great demonstrations on it.

The Scottish bagpipe music is on the small pipes. We have a local pipe maker in our town who is famous for making them called Fin Moore who is playing in the clip!
