Built in 1213 by the Sienese, Monteriggioni is a walled medieval settlement in Tuscany, Italy. It became a flashpoint in the Middle Ages during conflicts between the cities of Florence and Siena. In Assassin's Creed 2 and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood the fortress is home to the Villa Auditore and serves as the headquarters of the Assassins. Ezio Auditore returns to the city in 1500 C.E. to enjoy a brief moment of peace and calm, before this respite is interrupted when the Assassin stronghold comes under siege by Papal forces lead by the villainous Cesare Borgia and his father Pope Alexander VI. The fortress falls to the Borgias, forcing the scattered Assassins to flee to the very seat of Borgia power: Rome, the Eternal City.

Desmond Miles returns to present day Monteriggioni, finding the town to be in a well preserved state more than 500 years after the siege. Within the Sanctuary under the Villa Auditore, he and the modern-day assassins set up a temporary hide-out from which Desmond continues to explore Ezio's memories in the Animus, as the Florentine Assassin fights to liberate Rome from the Borgia tyranny corrupting her.

All music composed by Jesper Kyd, except for 32:25 Abstergo Industries which is composed by Lorne Balfe. Footage and sounds captured in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.
