In 1984, Nanning was a relatively small city with a population of just over 1 million people. The cityscape was dominated by low-rise buildings and open spaces. However, by 2000, Nanning had experienced significant growth. The city's population had more than doubled to over 2.5 million people, and the skyline was dotted with high-rise buildings.

The most dramatic changes in Nanning have taken place since 2000. The city's population has now surpassed 7 million people, and the skyline is now dominated by skyscrapers. The city has also undergone a major transformation in terms of infrastructure. New highways, bridges, and subway lines have been built, and the city's airport has been expanded.
