Someone sent me their IUL policy from National Life Group to review and give feedback on. The client is 28 years old, contributing $124.83/month, super random. The agent set the policy up with a Level Death Benefit option and had the client less than Target Funding the policy.

With out the additional funding up to the Guideline Level Annual Premium every year the policy doesn't bring much value, unless the client was hoping for a permanent death benefit policy, wanted to pay for it for life and really had no plans of using the cash value as a supplemental income.

Because Index Universal Life policies are being purchased for the cash value benefit and not the death benefit, it is extremely important that they are always set up in the best way to meet the clients goals. If they aren't then the client is placing money into a vehicle that does not met their needs. Insurance agents need to recognize that if they want a career in the insurance industry long term, they need to start giving their clients exactly what they asked for.

This also means agents need to go out of their way to make sure that the carrier they are using and recommending to their clients is the best one in the industry. Not all IULs are created the same, not even close. If someone claims they offer the best IULs and they aren't actually using the most competitive cash value policy there is.... is it the best policy?? No. National Life Group is best utilized when someone is looking for equal parts Living Benefits, Cash Value and Death Benefit. Heavy on the living benefits. Agents cannot decide what is best for the client. Yes we want all of our clients to have living benefits worst case scenario, but if thats not what they are after, it is our job to provide them with the information and choices to make the best option for them.
