Todd Harris joined the ABC/ESPN broadcast in 2004 as a pit reporter. Broadcasting legend Paul Page, a mainstay on the open wheel trail since the 1980s, was forced out of his station after the 2004 season

Todd Harris was promoted to lead commentator alongside analyst Scott Goodyear, and Gil de Ferran for the first few rounds of the season. de Ferran would accept a job as BAR Honda Sporting Director and F1, and thus would leave his position on the broadcast

I often consider the 2005 IRL Season as one of my favorites. One of the major detractors to this season is my personal distaste for Todd Harris as a commentator and his style. He said so many nonsensical, cringey things this season that it made me want to laugh, or cry, at times

Whether it was the pre-rehearsed lines to give as the green flag come out, using idioms to describe things that are out-of-pocket, or his nonstop infatuation with Brian Barnhart, Harris was clearly not a great fit in this position

As fate would have it, Harris would not be back in the position in 2006, giving way to Marty Reid would stay on as the lead for many seasons. Harris having one and only one season is equal parts a relief and also an Easter Egg, as we only have one season of highlights to pull from for finding some of the ridiculous nonsense he said

Disclaimer - I have no reason to think Todd Harris is a bad guy. He seems very charismatic, gracious, and someone I would love to get a beer with. As lead commentator though? Hard pass. I would also say that I would also be terrible at that job, but I also have no interest in it
