I've been slow to review the new Breville Barista Express Impress. The Breville thermocoil seemed clearly worse than the ThermoJet , and the tamping system didn't seem to add much, let alone prevent WDT. It turns out I was wayyy to quick to judge.

There is a lot to the Breville Barista Express Impress and in this espresso machine review, I put the new Breville through some tests, looking at the portafilter tamping system, and if it makes better espresso than the Barista Pro.

I am torn about whether to throw all my weight behind the Impress instead of the Pro, but the Pro has more control, I like the steam wand, and it's less expensive. I'm probably just used to it. The lower pressure on the Express Impress is an impressive feature, pun intended.
