Republican questioning of diplomats Bill Taylor and George Kent brought gas company Burisma, as well as Hunter Biden and his father, former Vice President Joe Biden, into the congressional spotlight Wednesday as the GOP questioned the two diplomats about Ukrainian corruption, and the Bidens relationship with the country.
"Is this company, Burisma, involved in lots and lots of criminal activity?" asked Republican Counsel Steve Castor.
"I do not know that," said George Kent, a top diplomat for European and Eurasian affairs.
"Over the years, it's been involved in in a number of questionable dealings, correct?" asked Castor.
"I would say that it's the largest private gas producer in the country and its business reputation is mixed," said Kent.
Castor then focused on Hunter Biden's addition to the company's board of directors.
"Was Hunter Biden a corporate governance expert?" Castor queried.
"I have no awareness or knowledge of what his background was and what he may have done on the board of directors," Kent said.
Kent has acknowledged that he himself raised concerns in 2015 about the then vice president’s son being on the board of Burisma.  He warned that it could give the “perception of a conflict of interest.”
