I'm not a song writer, probably because I am too anal to get past things like forced rhymes and, speaking of obsession, an inability to get past logical flaws in a song. I will still listen and enjoy them, but it still eats at me and I would have to make sure that the plot in my song was tight. The narrator in this song is bat-shit crazy. He claims that the stars are lighting up his room. Granted I suppose if you are having a conversation with the moon you dont really need much light, but then, he tells us that the neighbors think he's crazy. Well, duh. But why are his neighbors, not to mention the whole town in later verses, even aware of a dude that is sitting in the dark looking out his window. Could they even see him, relying only on stars for lighing? If he is so damn self conscious about his theory that the lover that left him(probably because he was showing some disturbing confusion with reality) that they would now decide to also look at the moon and talk back. Uh OK Bruno. Oh and by the way, just what do you mean by "the other side"? Is the lover in China? If so, there wouldn't be a moon simultaneously... see what I mean? Just enjoy the song and suspend disbelief. In fairness, he is clearly wanting to depict a psychotic individual so I can't be too hard on him. He certainly achieves that.
