Second Shanghai Fair going to Hungary-Trade Show 2025 Successfully Launched in Budapest
On October 30, 2025, the 21st edition of the Shanghai Fair going to Hungary-Trade Show 2025 opened ceremoniously at the Hungexpo Exhibition Center in Budapest, Hungary. Guided by the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the event was co-organized by the Shanghai Federation of Industrial Economics (Shanghai Economic Federation), Shanghai Modern Service Industry Federation, and Shanghai Public Diplomacy Association. It received strong support from Hungarian authoritative institutions, including the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Hungarian Export Promotion Agency, Budapest Chamber of Commerce, Sino-Hungarian Economic Chamber, Hungarian Chemical Industry Association, and Hungarian Contractors' Association.

Event Highlights
1. Scale and Scope
The exhibition brought together over 139 enterprises from six major industrial clusters in Shanghai, covering sectors such as light industry, chemicals, home textiles, energy-saving engineering, polyurethane, indoor air purification, drones, robotics, new energy, artificial intelligence, fintech, medical devices, and certification services. Over 260 Chinese entrepreneurs and association representatives attended.

2. Distinguished Guests
The opening ceremony featured high-profile attendees:
• Chinese Delegates: Ms. Chen Yiwei (Minister-Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Hungary), Mr. Zheng Huiqiang (Honorary Director of the Organizing Committee), Mr. Ruan Qing (Standing Committee Member of the Shanghai CPPCC), Mr. Yang Jinsong (Standing Committee Member of the Shanghai CPPCC), and Mr. Sun Jianping (President of Shanghai Modern Service Industry Federation).

• Hungarian Delegates: Ms. Katalin Bihari (State Secretary for Foreign Economic Relations), Dr. Joseph Straňák (Chairman of the Economic Services Department of Budapest Chamber of Commerce), Mr. Tamás Nádasdi (Chairman of the Sino-Hungarian Branch of the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce), and representatives from organizations like the Hungary-China Investor Roundtable, Hungarian Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, and MASTERPLAST (Hungary’s largest construction firm).

Approximately 200 participants from government, business, media, and civil society attended.

During the ceremony, Xia Yu (Director of Cooperation and Exchange Department, Shanghai Federation of Industrial Economics) and Dr. Joseph Straňák signed a strategic cooperation agreement on behalf of their institutions, marking a new phase of deepened bilateral collaboration. The signing was witnessed by dignitaries including Mr. Zheng Huiqiang, Mr. Sun Jianping, and Mr. Tamás Nádasdi.

4. Event Activities
• Business Activities: Nearly 10 thematic sessions, including cross-industry matchmaking, 150+ targeted business negotiations, and corporate roadshows.

• Policy Briefing: A dedicated session on Hungarian economic and trade policies.

• Site Visits: Shanghai delegation inspected the Oujiao Technology Industrial Park to explore R&D and production collaboration.

The event garnered extensive coverage from Hungarian outlets like Portfolio.hu, Index.hu, and Economx.hu, alongside international platforms such as Meta and LinkedIn. This multi-channel strategy amplified its global visibility and brand reputation.

Significance
As a flagship initiative of Shanghai’s "going global" strategy, the Shanghai Fair has facilitated over 10,000 cross-border collaborations since its inception. This Hungary edition underscores Shanghai’s role in advancing "Belt and Road" cooperation, fostering innovation, and strengthening people-to-people ties between China and Central Europe.
