Lienz, Austria: the scene of one part of Operation Keelhaul - the forced repatriation by the Allies of Cossacks to Soviet Russia, where they were shot or sent to the Gulag. Many Cossack families died here while being forced by British troops into trains for the USSR. Many women jumped with their children into the river running through this beautiful town instead of facing torture at the hands of the Reds. This was our memorial service for them at the few graves of some of the victims, June 1, 2018.
