George Mallory (1886–1924) was a pioneering British mountaineer whose attempts to scale Mount Everest led to one of the 20th century's greatest mysteries. During the final British expedition of 1924, Mallory and his partner, Andrew "Sandy" Irvine, disappeared high on the mountain's North Face.

Sherpa Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary were the first people confirmed to have successfully reached the summit of Mount Everest, the world's highest mountain. They achieved this historic feat on May 29, 1953, as part of a British expedition led by John Hunt.
