1. Preliminary Checks & Safety
Always power off and unplug your system before opening it.
Work in a clean, dry area with good lighting and no carpet
2. Diagnosing the Problem
Note your symptoms: no power, boot failure, POST beeps or error LEDs (red for RAM/CPU, etc.)
Use an anti-static wristband or regularly ground yourself to avoid ESD damage.
Test with minimal hardware: CPU + one RAM stick + PSU only. Then add components one at a time to isolate the fault
3. Visual & Physical Inspection
Clean the board thoroughly using compressed air and a soft brush to remove dust that could cause shorts

Replace faulty capacitors —resolder carefully and solder the correct new ones (same voltage/capacitance). Requires steady hands and proper tools
Inspect for bulging/leaking capacitors, burnt traces or damaged ports. These are tell-tale signs of failure
Repair broken PCB traces — test with a Multi meter and bridge gaps within the insulated wire or conductive pen
Check and reset all ports and sockets; replace any that are physically damaged.
5. Advanced Repairs
If you suspect BIOS corruption, BIOS flashing could help, but this is risky and may “brick” the board if interrupted.
Tools like motherboard testers, or Multi Meters are invaluable for pinpointing faults
6. When to Stop and Call a Pro
If the damage is complex (e.g. multiple component failures, micro traces).
If you're unsure about soldering or component replacement.
If the motherboard is still under warranty.
If the repair cost gets close to the cost of replacement
