Visualize an eagle’s claws, one foot is the subject, the other foot is the verb. It uses its claws to stand on its own like an independent clause.
DCs Dependent Clauses ICs Independent Clauses
A clause is a group of related words.
It contains “Gripping Claws”
Both a subject and a verb.
Independent clauses,
Have a subject and a verb,
Express complete thoughts,
And can be understood.
Dependent clauses have
A subject and a verb,
But they begin with
An additional word.
DCs start with conjunctions,
Which make them subordinate.
They need an IC
To finish what they meant.
A clause is a group of related words.

An independent clause, simply stated, is a simple sentence.
For example, I saw Dennis the menace.
A dependent clause is a simple sentence
With a conjunction added, like, the word “when”.
Like: When I saw Dennis the menace..
Now that sentence no longer makes sense. It needs an
Independent clause added to finish its thought.
When I saw Denis the menace, he was asking for repentance.
