Here’s why:
Hospitals are not allowed to apply 18% GST on the full bill, since many core medical services are actually exempt from GST. Things like doctor consultations, ICU or CCU care, basic healthcare services, and room rent below ₹5000 per day are all supposed to have zero percent GST. Even medicines and consumables included in a treatment package are not taxable. So if GST is being charged on the entire bill—including those exempt services—you might be getting overcharged. Always check your bill properly before you pay.
